Kanal music review
Songs from Kanal aren’t of those soundtracks that would floor everyone at the outset, but it has several catchy tunes and quality music, which can seep deep into you.
The velvety vocals of Neha Nair power the opening track Pathukke Entho, with interludes of romantic dialogues by Mohanlal. It vies for attention from the very first note and one can’t help admiring its melody.

Its smooth-sailing pace gives an impressive beginning to the album, which can tempt music aficionados to check out the rest too.
Sharath’s rendition creates a chilling effect in the gently paced second song Maya Nagarame, which has the stamp of the gifted vocalist, all over. However, it’s an intense track that’s best enjoyed watching the movie. Shahabaz Aman is behind the mike for the next song, a Hindustani number, that goes Magar Thum. His evocative voice rules the composition and joins hands with the unpretentious, divine musical arrangements with the apt use of tabla and genre-specific instruments, spelling magic in the air.
Just when you begin to lounge comfortably in a classical music zone, Killaathe Chollamo by Vaikkom Vijayalakshmi shows up. She has rendered the fast number in a relaxed manner and there is an addictive deepness in her voice, modulated just right for this song.
K S Chitra and Sudeep Kumar come together for the movie’s only duet Oru Venal Kaataai. An unhurried number with lots of ambience sounds, tender rhythmic loop and poetic lyrics, it is also beautifully sung by the lead singers.
As mentioned at the outset, the album won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and may not be instantly endearing. It merits numerous listens if you love quality music.
