‘Kammattipaadam’ music director John P Varkey no more

Popular musician John P Varkey who is best known for the soundtracks in the Dulquer Salmaan starrer ‘Kammattipaadam’ collapsed and died at his residence on Monday (29-Aug-2022). He was aged 51. John P Varkey is survived by his wife and two children Job John and Joseph John. Reportedly the funeral function of the noted music director will be held later.
Apart from being a music director, John P Varkey was a noted rock guitarist who rose to fame with a famous music band named Jigsaw Puzzle and was a part of the note music band Aviyal.
John P Varkey was also a guitarist and songwriter for the Thrissur-based band Slowpedalers and he studied music at a popular college in London.
John P Varkey made his debut in music composition with the movie ‘Frozen’, a black and white Indian drama film directed by Shivajee Chandrabhushan and released in 2007. Actors Danny Denzongpa, Gauri, Rajendranath Zutshi, and Aamir Bashir played major lead roles in this movie that also bagged the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a director in the year 2007.

John P Varkey gained much popularity among the Malayali audience through his musical composition for the Dulquer Salmaan starrer crime drama film ‘Kammattipaadam’. The songs ‘Para Para’, and ‘Chingamaasathile’ were composed by John P Varkey and crooned by Anwar Ali and Dileep KG.
John P Varkey has also been part of several other movies and popular ones among them being ‘Idi Sangathi’, ‘Karthik’, ‘Unnam’, I.D’, ‘Olipporu’, ‘Penkody’, and ‘Eeda’ which was written and directed by B Ajithkumar and released in the year 2018.
