"Judging a film on actor's name alone creates imbalance," says Grace Antony

Grace Antony, who recently impressed the audiences with her performance in the series ‘Nagendran’s Honeymoons’, voiced her concerns about the selective recognition of actors within the industry.

According to On Manorama, the actress emphasized the need for films to be evaluated on their overall quality rather than just the fame of the actors involved. “For a film to succeed, it should be judged on its quality and appeal, not solely on the actor’s name,” she asserted.

Grace highlighted the issue of unfair treatment and the lack of equal acknowledgment for all contributors in the film industry. She argued that every actor, regardless of their standing, deserves recognition for their contributions. “Actors must be recognized for their contributions, no matter their standing in the industry. When only a select few receive recognition, it creates an imbalance,” she explained.

Although Grace Antony stated that she has not personally faced harassment, she acknowledged hearing about the troubling experiences of others in the industry. She called for a more merit-based evaluation system, stressing the importance of recognizing the efforts of both creative and technical teams, including directors and producers. “Cinema is a business, and it’s important that both the creative and technical teams, including directors and producers, receive recognition for their contributions. Actors should be assessed based on their performance and the market value they bring to a project,” Grace added.

Comparing the current state of Malayalam cinema to Tamil cinema, Grace pointed out that Tamil cinema offers a more equitable system of recognition. She urged Malayalam cinema to adopt similar standards, stating, “In Tamil cinema, actors receive fair recognition based on their work. Malayalam cinema should adopt similar standards to benefit everyone involved.”

On the work front, Grace Antony's recent outing was with the Jeethu Joseph's directorial 'Nunakkuzhi'.
