Until now Joy Mathew was popularly known as the 'new generation dad' of Malayalam cinema. The actor has now gone a step ahead, to turn dad to none other than
Prabhudeva, in a trilingual film, being shot in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi simultaneously.
The film has Tamannaah as the heroine, and interestingly, other than Prabhudeva and Tamannaah, Joy Mathew is the only actor who is common to all the three languages.
'It's a whole new world, to say the least,' says an overwhelmed Joy Mathew, from the location at Satara, a town situated four hours by road from Pune. 'It is a privilege and a challenge to shoot in three languages at the same time, especially Telugu. The film is a comedy, but half the time, I have no clue what the joke is and have to keep asking people around,' he says.
And how did he land the role? In his characteristic style, Joy Mathew replies, 'I was sitting at home jobless, and enjoying it too, but my wife started pestering me, asking me to get out of the house. Then this offer came, so I had to take it up.'
On a serious note, he adds, 'It was Prabhudeva himself who suggested my name, after seeing some of my Malayalam films, including Shutter.'
So how is it acting with the dancing legend? 'He has thorough knowledge about everything related to the making of a film. Also, he treats you with great love and respect, and is very patient with the dialogues. In fact the entire set treats me like a king, as if I am a superstar from Malayalam!' And acting in Bollywood? 'It is a very systematic and disciplined set-up here, more like a corporate house. I'm impressed by the massive scale at which things are done.'
Joy Mathew's character is that of a village chief in the trilingual, which is untitled as of now, and is directed by A L Vijay.
