Malayalam filmmaker Jeethu Joseph is best known for his suspense drama film 'Drishyam,' starring Mohanlal in the lead. But in a recent interview, Jeethu Joseph was asked to pick his best work, and be prepared to be surprised—it's not 'Drishyam'!

Jeethu Joseph picks his best work

In a candid chat with 360 Radio during promotions for his upcoming film 'Mirage,' the director was asked to pick his favorite from his body of work. Though the options included his widely celebrated 'Drishyam' parts 1 and 2, as well as 'Memories,' 'Neru,' and 'Detective,' Jeethu chose 'Memories,' the 2013 thriller starring Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Even when pressed to choose again after 'Drishyam 1' and 'Drishyam 2' were added into the mix, Jeethu stuck firmly to his choice of 'Memories.'

'Memories' over 'Drishyam'

Released in 2013, the same year as Drishyam, Memories was a gripping crime thriller with Prithviraj playing an alcoholic police officer chasing a serial killer. The film was praised for its taut screenplay, strong performances, and emotional depth. Apart from the engaging screenplay, the soundtrack of 'Memories' also received much love from the audiences. The rain-chasing scene is also one of the highlights in 'Memories.'

Here's a bonus tip for cinephiles: you may have missed out on another gem from Jeethu Joseph, which is the Suresh Gopi starrer 'Detective.' Although the movie was a flop, later it received much love from the audiences due to its climax, and the villain's trick of killing the victim was something that the audiences had not seen before in murder mystery films.

Breaking free from the thriller tag

Meanwhile, Jeethu is preparing for the release of 'Drishyam 3' but has admitted he feels the weight of constant comparisons and expectations. Speaking earlier at the Manorama News Conclave 2025, he confessed he is “tired of thrillers” and wants to explore other genres. “Even when I went to Telugu, they asked for a twist at the end. In Tamil, they demanded logic. I want to break free from this box,” he said, recalling his earlier lighter films like 'My Boss' (2012) and 'Mummy & Me' (2010).
