Jayasurya's first biopic is on footballer VP Sathyan

The actor will play the lead character, that of VP Sathyan
Jayasurya never ceases to take us by surprise, with the kind of roles he picks up. True to his earlier words that he would never do run-off-the-mill stuff, the actor is taking up yet another challenge ' playing football legend

V P Sathyan

in his next movie. Titled Captain, it will be directed by Prajesh Sen, who has worked with Siddique. 'It was in the set of my Siddique film Fukri that the team came to meet me. In two lines I was taken in. I was so impressed by the kind of hero V P Sathyan was that I wanted to do it as early as possible,' says a visibly excited Jayasurya.

Kannur native Sathyan was the captain of the Indian team, going on to win gold medals for Kerala and India. 'He was a legend, bringing back Santhosh Trophy to Kerala. But he never got his due. We have more unsung heroes in Kerala than the talked about ones,' says the actor.

The film will portray three stages of life of Sathyan, and thus will be the first full-fledged biopic for the actor. 'It's going to be challenging. And it will also be the most expensive film in my career. Every age will be recreated with computer graphics, complete with costumes and sets. It's going to be a film made in a large canvas. The matches will be shown brilliantly.'

How about him getting trained in football? 'I'll be honest when I say I'm not much into sports in real life, though I do watch football. But I'll be putting every effort to do justice to the role. I spoke to Sathyan's wife and am doing as much background research as possible before shooting for the movie. Also, it was always my wish to do something motivational like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.'
