Trust Jayasurya to spring a surprise when he is at the peak of his career, churning hit after hit. Though, this time, the actor has turned director for a short film. 'Dual Sim', the five minute four seconds short film posted online recently, has been garnering good response. Ask him if his debut attempt at direction is a stepping stone to calling the shots on the big screen and the actor says with his characteristic smile, Id love to direct a film someday.
But
Dual Sim is not like Im testing waters at a career behind the camera.
Based on his own short story, '
Pranayinee Ninte Changoottam', penned a few years ago, '
Dual Sim' throws light on a topic that holds much relevance in current times. Even as the short film is getting good reviews from different quarters,
Jayasurya says hes in no hurry to sign his next. Im doing things at my own pace. Weve just wound up the shoot of
Trivandrum Lodge. Besides
Shafis next, I havent really signed up any other film, Jayasurya says, adding, At this point in my career, I dont see the need to hurry. Im relishing every role that comes my way, the latest being
Abdu in
Trivandrum Lodge, a hard-to-fathom introvert.
The film marks his third flick with good friend
Anoop Menon, after Cocktail and Beautiful. While
Anoop gave
Jayasurya the role of a villain with a humane touch in Cocktail, in Beautiful, it was a paraplegic that
Jayasurya played with conviction.
Abdu is no less challenging, says
Jayasurya, not wanting to divulge more about the character. While we did Beautiful, all we wanted was to make a good film that the audience would cherish. Now that the film has raised the bar, the audience expects nothing less when the team comes together yet another time with
Trivandrum Lodge. The onus it put on us is huge; we hope to live up to expectations, he says, fingers crossed.
