Jayasurya to play E Sreedharan in his biopic titled Ramasethu
Biopics seem to be the first preference for Jayasurya these days. He had played footballer VP Sathyan in last year’s Captain and had also committed to play the lead in legendary actor Sathyan's
The film, which will be directed by VK Prakash and scripted by S Suresh Babu, was announced on Tuesday. Suresh Babu, who had scripted films such as Shikkar and Kanal, had earlier planned a film on the Metro Man’s life titled Arabikkadalinte Rani. However, the team has re-worked on the script as “it’s the official biopic on E Sreedharan”. The movie’s director VK Prakash says, “The film is sort of a homage for a great man from our land who has created history.”
The team have been trying for the past five to six years to get the rights for his biopic. Suresh Babu says, “Several big production houses had also approached for it. Also, it’s been 35 years since Sreedharan sir watched a film, so it’s a matter of great pride that he liked our script and has given his permission to go ahead.”
The film will have Jayasurya essaying Sreedharan from the age of 30 till 85. “We start from his project Pamban Bridge at Rameswaram and detail his professional journey at Cochin Shipyard, Konkan Railway and his Metro projects across India,” explains the scriptwriter, adding that the film will be shot across India with Tripunithura, Rameswaram, Cochin Shipyard and Konkan rail route being the main locations.
The movie, meanwhile, will be told from the eyes of two impoverished characters – PK Uthaman and his daughter K Lathika, who works at a textile shop. “During the Rameswaram project, Uthaman was working at a railway canteen and Sreedharan has been a huge inspiration for him and his family. We explore an emotional track through their characters,” says Suresh Babu.
Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran has been roped in to crank the camera for the movie. The commencing date of the movie and the rest of the cast is yet to be finalised.
