In most of his films, Anoop Menon has been playing very sober and subdued characters, thriving on dialogues rather than emotional expressions.
However, his upcoming film, Malgudi Days is an intense emotional drama, and was quite a challenge for him, he admits. “Except for Thirakkatha maybe, I have always been acting as the philosopher- advisor in most of my films, with no emotions at their core.
It was cakewalk for me as I am like that in real. But Malgudi Days was an emotionally draining experience as everything about it is intense. I had to go through severe mental and physical challenges to portray Stephan Solomon, my character in it,” he says.
The film has been directed by three brothers — Vinod, Visakh and Vivek. “It is perhaps the first in the history of cinema that three brothers are directing a film. They are new people and initially I had no inkling to say yes to the project. But I loved the sincerity with which they approach their craft and agreed to be part of the movie. Also, I know how difficult it is for youngsters to get an entry in cinema,” he says. In his upcoming movie Kanal, Anoop Menon shares screen space with Mohanlal. He recalls that it was with Mohanlal that he did his first film. The talented actor is also part of director Marthandan’s Pavada, where his co-star is none other than Prithviraj.
“Pavada has one of the finest scripts I have ever come across. The role I have is quite challenging, not just for me, for Prithvriaj as well,” he says.
