March 8 is observed as International Women's Day, and the United Nations has designated this year's (2024) theme as 'Invest in women: Accelerate progress', which puts a spotlight on the essential and inseparable roles of decent work and gender equality.

On the occasion of Women’s Day, M-Town celebs including filmmaker Anjali Menon, actors Shanthi Krishna, Namitha Pramod and others have taken to their respective social media platforms to extend wishes to their fellow women.

Filmmaker Anjali Menon penned a note that reads, “The energies of women in my world form this amazing tapestry of light that inspires me to be a prism of my own - each one gathering life and passing it through herself to transmute it to greater colours and light! Proud and privileged to witness your journeys, glow on and go on! Happy Women’s Day!”

On Women’s Day, Namitha Pramod wrote a note to herself, as a reminder of how amazing of a woman she is! Her note reads, “Note to myself. Being a child wasn’t easy. Like everyone else, I had always experienced a roller coaster of a life. It seemed like a huge self-discovery journey to go from being insecure about my appearance and physique to appreciating every aspect of myself as a woman. I’m grateful to everyone who has loved and rejected me. Life has taught me that no one else can provide you with the things you have. Adoring the actor, entrepreneur, child, and woman within myself. On this Women’s Day, remain content and proud of who you are.”

This world isn’t exactly shaped in a way, where women could flourish. But, does that mean we stop living, and only focus on surviving? Tessa K Abraham of ‘22 Female Kottayam thinks otherwise! Directed by Aashiq Abu, the film features Rima Kallingal as Tessa, a nurse, who moves to Bangalore for a job opportunity. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when she becomes a victim of sexual assault. Instead of succumbing to the tragedy, Tessa decides to take matters into her own hands, seeking justice and retribution. Through her life, she also proved that we are not the sum of what life offers us, but what we do with it.

Life is a journey, and each person and experience we meet with is just part of it, not the whole story. Aashiq Abu’s ‘Rani Padmini’ revolves around two women, Rani and Padmini, played by Manju Warrier and Rima Kallingal, respectively, who set out on a road trip, not by choice, but by circumstances. The road trip results in the characters exploring who they are.

Motherhood is a choice, which solely relies on a woman. And Blessy’s ‘Kalimannu’ reinstates the same. ‘Kalimannu’ follows the life of Meera (played by Shweta Menon), a former club dancer, who unfortunately loses her husband to a road accident, and wants to become a mother. Meera wants to have a child from her husband, who is declared brain death. Though there are possibilities of artificial insemination, from the sample collected from her deceased husband, the society and law gives her a tough time. But Meera is determined to fulfill her wish of embracing motherhood.
