The upcoming Lal-Jean Paul
Lal directorial Tsunami has
Innocent, not only in a pivotal role, but also as a singer. The film is actually based on true incident that happened in Innocent’s life, says Lal.
Talking about the film’s shoot, Lal says, it had just 10 days of shoot left in March, when they decided to pack up and that too for good reason. “We first heard about Covid-19 when we were in the thick of shooting and I immediately decided to halt all production on March 10 because Innocent chettan was weak and he had just undergone treatment.
Even before joining the shoot, he said there was a high risk of infection because of the medicines he is taking. So, I didn’t want to risk it,” he says.
While they were initially hoping to resume the shoot next month, the extension of the lockdown meant they had to wait longer. Even when the government permitted shooting with a crew of less than 50 personnel, Lal says his thoughts first went to Innocent’s health. “Right after the government gave a green signal, Innocent chettan called me to say that he has to check in for his next treatment and he didn’t want the shoot to be delayed further because of him as he wouldn’t be able to shoot for at least three months after that. So, he wanted to finish his portions,” says Lal. “The movie is based on a true incident that happened in his life and he plays a lead character in the film. He has also sung a track in the film.”
The team then quickly drew up a plan and cut down the original crew of 125 to 48. “We didn’t feel good about laying off people who were there from the start. Also the amount of work each person had to do increased considerably, but everyone stepped up,” says Lal. “We took all precautions and had designated a person specifically to check all the guidelines were followed throughout the day.”
