IDSFFK 2017: Muhajir will be screened: Kamal

It is not just the films- March March March, In The Shade of Fallen Chinar and Unbearable Being of Lightness- that are denied from screening at the 10th International Documentary & Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) by the union information and broadcasting ministry (I&B). A film titled Muhajir which speaks about the life of a migrant worker in the Gulf too has been rejected. The movie, part of a package curated by acclaimed critic C.S.Venkiteswaran, was supposed to be screened in the 'Migrant Lives' section of the festival, in which movies conceived and produced by emigrants in the Gulf region are showcased.To know more about the ban, when contacted the Chalachitra Accademy Chairman Kamal, he told us that the film which doesn’t deal with any politically sensitive issue has been denied permission due to a spelling error in the application. "We have given appeal for it giving explanation. It will be screened in the festival and the approval will be granted easily. That is precisely why we did not speak about it in the Press conference," he said.The 10th edition of IDSFFK will be held in Thiruvananthapuram from June 16 to 20. Around 260 short films and documentaries are expected to be screened in the five-day festival. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan would inaugurate the festival.
