Post his National Award winning performance in Adaminte Makan Abu, actor Salim Kumar has been very selective about his roles. Now, the buzz is that the ace actor is going to bid adieu to tinseltown. When contacted,
Salim Kumar confirmed the news and said, “Yes, I am going to quit acting, but not now, only after three years. I’m 43 and will retire when I’m 46.” However, he said that his almost two-decade-long career in the Malayalam film industry has been incredible.
So, why then is he quitting? “I want to retire not because I am bored of acting. But I realise that there are better things to do in life. I don’t want to limit myself as an actor alone. I am a son, husband and father of two children. I have to take care of their needs and concerns,” he says and adds, “I believe, acting also has a retirement phase. Unfortunately, no one in the industry is ready to accept that.”
The actor, who is known for his rib-tickling comedies, was seen taking up more serious and character roles of late. “Well, there was a time when I acted in four films a day. But now, I can afford to be more selective. I don’t do more than one film a day. Like any other actor, I also look for good scripts and want to portray some memorable characters on screen. Even two-year-old babies are dying; after all I could see, enjoy and attain so much in my 43 years on earth. I am happy and content,” he says.
Meanwhile, Salim Kumar is currently busy with his production venture
, Moonam Naal Njayarazcha, helmed by T A Razaaq. The socially relevant movie will see the actor playing a character called Karumban.
