I was waiting for an exciting script: Farhaan Faasil
His debut movie
It took two years for you to sign your second film'
It was not a conscious decision, to be honest. I was supposed to do two films in between, one of which got shelved while the other got postponed.
Moreover, I was in no hurry to sign my next movie either, and wanted to tread carefully. That is what even my brother Fahadh asked me to do and so, I was cool! Even he had taken a break after his first film Kaiyethum Doorath and took up his next only much later.
And it was not like I was sitting idle those two years! I was busy travelling, spending time with my friends while listening to scripts. I was ready to wait for an exciting film and was sure something good will come my way.
And what made you say yes to Basheer'?
I was listening to many stories, but the ones coming my way were all similar to that of my debut, with dark subjects. I had decided not to repeat myself and wanted to do a feel-good film as my second. About one-and-a-half years ago, my friend and actor-director Sajid Yahiya had sent three young writers to me. They gave me an outline of this story and I quite liked it.
Finally, it's going on floors, as Basheerinte Prema Lekhanam!
How is Basheer different from Steve?
All I can say at this point is that he is quite a lovable guy.
In Njan Steve Lopez, I hardly smiled, but for this movie, I am just the opposite. We had shot for a day for some song sequences and throughout the shoot, I was smiling and laughing. Basheer is such a character. And boy, I enjoyed it! We will be shooting for the film in August, with Palakkad as the main location.
Your look in the movie is quite retro'
Yes! The story is set in 1980s, and Basheer has slightly long, but neatly combed hair! It's something new for me, being a person who rarely brushes his hair (laughs)! As Steve too I had to grow my hair a bit to bring in a 'shabby' look. Interestingly, I don't like growing my hair at all and was determined I wouldn't lengthen it for my next film. But then, Basheer required long locks again. I had been growing my hair and moustache for it and it took a while for me to accept this get up. We had tried quite a few styles for the character and this is the one everyone liked.
Njan Steve Lopez
by Rajeev Ravi opened to good reviews in 2014 and just like the film, its hero Farhaan Faasil's performance was also noticed. However, the actor didn't go on a signing spree and instead, chose to stay away from the limelight. After a gap of two years, Farhaan is again in the news, and this time, he will be playing the lead in Aneesh Anwar's upcoming film Basheerinte Prema Lekhanam. In conversation with Farhaan:It took two years for you to sign your second film'
