AparnaGopinath is not your everyday dish of a coy starlet who bats her eyelids at the sound of a clap. She’s in fact the bold woman of today with an attitude to match and one who’s created a niche for herself in the Malayalam film industry. In a candid chat with
Kochi Times, the theatre artiste turned big screen star shares that before getting into movies, she has tonsured her head several times.
“I have gone completely bald for more than 30 times. In fact, my style used to be a rage and had even triggered a trend in college. Even while doing theatre, I used to shave my head and have worn wigs. In fact, I am least bothered about my looks and all that matters is my level of comfort. At the same time, I am not reluctant to try out different looks, in reel or in real life,” says Aparna.
The actress, who is awaiting the release of Mammootty starrer
Munnariyyippu, is elated about her next release. “Though I was part of Aashiq Abu’s
Gangster with Mammootty in the lead, this is the first time that I am sharing screen space with the superstar. Initially, I was quite nervous. The Mammootty-starrer
Thalapathi is still my hot favourite; I just love him in the movie. In fact, most of the cast and crew of
Munnariyyippu were award winners, and each day I felt like I am in an acting class. The experience was fabulous and I am looking forward to its release,” she says.
Aparna plays Anjali, an ambitious young journalist in the movie which revolves around the relationship between a convict and a scribe. Aparna says her role in the film was the most challenging of all. “Anjali is the master of her game and she is the one who plans her life. Throughout the movie, the character passes through a range of thoughts and emotions. I had to be very intense to portray such a strong and bold character on screen,” says Aparna, adding that the character is quite different from what she is in real life. “Except the spectacles and haircut, we are two different people, with different attitudes.”
The actress who is five films old in M-Town says her life hasn’t changed after movies. “The only difference is people have started recognising me as an actress, and it is because cinema has more visibility than any other medium. But I am a simple person and I want to keep everything simple and happy. To be more precise, fame won’t bring any change in me.”
