Honey Rose: I heard Abrid sir’s script & felt I can do this role well
Honey Rose is excited about associating with Abrid Shine for the title role in Rachel, which was announced yesterday. “The role I play will come as a surprise to audiences. For me, it was fun and after Telugu film Veera Simha Reddy, this seemed the perfect role with which to make a return to Malayalam,” she says, about the film to be helmed by debut director Anandini Bala.
The actress, who has appeared in strong female roles, says that she had been listening to scripts for the past year, but hadn’t received anything interesting. Movie or no movie, Honey has also been a bit of a social media ‘queen’, with so many appearances at inaugurations, that it became a meme topic. One of her recent appearances at an event got 60 million views, and the actress says, with all this happening, she was keen to “wait till something good” came her way.
Without saying much about the role, she says, “I have had some strong performance-oriented roles, in Monster, Kumbasaram, Trivandrum Lodge; but this movie, I think, is some rungs above these. Audiences will be experiencing this kind of a story and character for the first time. When I heard the story I felt I was the right person for the role. Maybe, because I am so keen about it. Also, I kind of feel that it will turn out well if I do it,” says the actress, laughing.
‘Abrid sir’s films have a novel, raw quality’I have watched and loved all of Abrid sir’s movies. Each one offers a different experience. His films have such a realistic feel. Action Hero Biju gave a never-before seen glimpse into a police station, with how they talk and behave. It had such a natural quality and I feel my upcoming movie will also have the same ethos, with characters that are very raw. When he told me about this project, I was very excited about it. I think it is an experimental attempt for him, as well.
‘Want to do a romance’
I don’t have a dream role, as such. But what I try to do is to bring my distinctive style to the roles that come my way, and make them mine. One thing that I would like to do is an out-and-out romance; an intense romance. That’s something I haven’t done. I think I would be good at it. Romantic movies are so beautiful.
‘I will one day miss inaugurations’
“I have been doing this since 2006, but thanks to social media, it has now blown up to become this huge thing. I don’t know how it came to this, but now it is such a part of my life and I think I will miss it when it stops,” she says, laughing. “I really enjoy the interactions with people during these events; it is fun to feel people’s energy and communicate with them. I repost some of the memes; I take it in a positive manner.”
