Happy Birthday Suraj Venjaramoodu: From ‘Action Hero Biju’ to ‘Vikruthi’, five unmissable films of the National award-winning star

Suraj Venjaramoodu has been entertaining us for nearly two decades now. As a comedian, character actor and now a hero, the actor has showed us his acting chops. Making people laugh is the toughest job and Suraj Venjaramoodu has done that gracefully in the past. And now he is winning hearts with character roles and has emerged as one of the finest stars in the industry to reckon with. As Suraj Venjaramoodu is celebrating his birthday today, here’s taking a look at some of the best performances of the National award-winning actor.

Suraj Venjaramoodu has made movie lovers laugh their lungs out, with hilarious performances in the past, but the 2016 movie ‘Action Hero Biju’ broke that image of his in the minds of the audience with his character Pavithran. It’s hard to watch the scene, without shedding tears, where Pavithran asks for the custody of his daughter at the police station. Pavithran’s wife wants to flee off with her lover and refuses to give the custody of the daughter to Pavithran. She divulges that Pavithran is not the father of the girl and Pavithran is shattered into pieces. The movie perhaps gave an insight into the actor’s capabilities as an artist!

Released in 2015, ‘Perariyathavar’ (Names Unknown) has one of the stupendous performances of Suraj Venjaramoodu. The movie is directed by Dr. Biju, and saw Suraj Venjaramoodu as a widower, who has a son. The movie revolves around people from the marginalised sections of the society. Although the movie didn’t make it big in theatres, Suraj Venjaramoodu bagged the National film award for best actor for his performance in the movie.

Directed by Dileesh Pothan, the 2017 release ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ brought fame to Suraj Venjaramoodu. Suraj played the lead character Prasad, who is a common man who married a Sreeja from a different caste. Sreeja’s wedding chain gets robbed on a bus by a local thief Prasad. Suraj Venjaramoodu slayed the character with grace and the movie also became a hit.

With ‘Android Kunjappan Version 5.25’, Suraj Venjaramoodu proved that he could not only work magic on screen but also in the box -office. Suraj Venjaramoodu played Bhaskara Poduval, an old man in his late 60s in the movie. The actor went for a jaw-dropping transformation physically and mentally. Copying the mannerisms of the elderly, ‘Android Kunjappan Version 5.25’ is an intriguing entertainer that one must watch.

Released in 2019, 'Vikruthi' also has one of the spectacular performances of actor Suraj Venjaramoodu. He essayed Eldho, a person who is both speech and hearing impaired. Eldho becomes a victim to trolls and bullying after a co-passenger on a metro uploads a picture of Eldho labeled as a drunkard. Inspired by a real-life story, the movie has an exceptional performance by Suraj Venjaramoodu and it is a must-watch.
