Happy Birthday Manju Warrier! Here are five popular characters of the actress

In both her innings as an actress, which are from 1995 to 1999 and 2014 to present, Manju Warrier has played some notable characters that have gone on to be very popular.

1)Bhanu of Kanmadam

Say Bhanu of Kanmadam and what comes to mind is a woman in her twenties with a dusty face, messy hair, angry expression, dressed in a shirt and and skirt. The film goes on to show how she carries the weight of her family on her shoulders, after her brother goes missing. Alongside Mohanlal, who plays the male lead in the film Manju gives a fiery performance which also won her the Best Actress – Malayalam Award in the year 1998, at the Filmfare South Awards.

2)Bhadra of Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu
A girl who used a father and a son, using her body and mind, to take revenge. Bhadra of Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu is a character that is still talked about, for its bold portrayal of a woman’s character. The film, directed by T K Rajeev Kumar, won Manju her special mention at the 1998 National Film Awards.

3)Unnimaya of Aaram Thamburan
Manju’s dialogues and the entry in a red sari in the film is still one of the much-loved scenes in Malayalam that many often go back to. Yet again a film in which she stole the scene alongside Mohanlal, Unnimaya’s character won Manju the Filmfare Award South in the year 1997.

4)Nirupama of How Old Are You

Nirupama is the role that offered Manju is a dream-like comeback after a very long break from the industry. The character, which offered a glimpse into the journey of a woman’s discovery of self-worth, also won Manju the Filmfare Award South in the year 2014.

5)Kamala Suraiyya of Aami

It was a role for which she was picked last, after even those like Vidya Balan said no to it. However, Manju pulled off a competent act, playing the character of the celebrated writer Kamala Suraiyya, in the film. She also won the Filmfare Awards South in 2019 for the performance in the film.
