Despite the star-studded cast and an intriguing premise based on a true story, the movie has managed to collect only Rs 2.85 crore over its first five days.

According to the Kerala Box Office Twitter forum, the film's performance has been underwhelming. They tweeted, "‘Grrr’ Kerala gross - Rs 2.85 Cr ~ Marching towards the FLOP verdict!!”

Sacnilk website's report noted that the movie opened with Rs 65 lakhs at the Kerala box office.

Directed by Jay K, 'Grrr' is inspired by the real-life incident of a lion escaping from Thiruvananthapuram Zoo in 2018. The film, which hit theaters on June 14, 2024, received mixed reviews from critics. While the concept promised an adventurous and thrilling ride, many felt the execution fell short.

ETimes rated the film 2.5 out of 5, stating, "Grrr... from Jay K may turn out to be enjoyable for children, but as it stands, it's barely held together by a slim storyline. It does generate a few laughs here and there, but fails to impress in execution. However, the tracks by Dawn Vincent are catchy and keep the energy up in the film. One might expect something more adventurous when a film is made solely around the premise of a drunk man jumping into a lion enclosure and getting rescued from there."
