Govind Padmasoorya to debut in Hindi film launched at Ram Katha Park amid Dussehra festivities

Newly-engaged actor Govind Padmasoorya has something interesting happening on the professional front. He is debuting in his first Hindi film, titled The Mentor, directed by Vinil Vasu.

Speaking about the film, Govind says, “Set around kabbadi sport, the film is based on the relationship between a coach and his students. The story is about a retired sportsman who returns to Kerala from UP and sets up a kabbadi team here. And while it is a contemporary tale, the characterisation is based on the Mahabharata. The mentor’s name is Vasudev, giving him a connotation of Krishna, for example.”

The film is in Hindi, but the story takes place in Kerala, because according to folklore, the Thirumittakode Anchumoorthi temple in Pattambi was established by Arjunan and the Pandavas. The film draws parallels between the Mahabharata and kabbadi, with characters based on the mythology.

Govind is also debuting as a composer with the movie, having directed the title track, Vijayi Bhava, which was played to launch the film amid Dussehra festivities at Ram Katha Park, in Ayodhya, yesterday. “When I read the script, I got this powerful tune in my head. It sounds like an action-movie track and when I spoke to the director, he gave me the freedom to try my hand at it and said it would be the title track,” says Govind. Gopi Sundar has composed the music for the film. Steven Bernard, of Singham and Chennai Express fame, is the editor.

The film has actors from across the country and Govind is playing a character based on Arjun. “The actors are all new, but come with theatre experience, so the film comes backed with strong performances,” he says. The film is set to be dubbed in Marati, Punjabi, Gujarati and south Indian languages.
