Apart from the powers of the district panchayat being curtailed in fisheries and health, non-vegetarian food items have been removed from the school menus in Lakshadweep, islands where people increasingly consume seafood. Also beef has been banned and bar licenses allowed in the majority Muslim region.
Speaking about how he had made life-long friends after shooting for Anarkali there, Prithviraj said he had shot a “challenging sequence” of Lucifer too, there. “None of these would have been possible if not for the wonderful, warm hearted people of Lakhsadweep,” he wrote. “I’ve been getting desperate messages from people I know and do not know from these islands, requesting and sometimes even pleading for me to do what I can to bring public attention to what is going on there… do listen to the voice of the people of Lakshadweep, trust them to know what is better for their land.”
