Gautham Vasudev Menon praises Mammootty’s performance in ‘Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse’

Acclaimed director Gautham Vasudev Menon shared his admiration for Mammootty while discussing their collaboration on the much-awaited film 'Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse', which has finally hit the big screens. Reflecting on his journey as a filmmaker, Gautham expressed his awe for Mammootty, a legendary actor who has influenced him for decades.


Taking to Twitter, Gautham wrote, “From when I watched Thaniyavarthanam, Amaram, Thalapathi, Vadakkan Veeragatha, CBI Diary Kurippu, New Delhi, and August 1, being spellbound and thinking I must get to work with this man. To now directing him in a film that’s also produced by him, I believe in life, magic, and dogged pursuit.”


In an interview with Hindustan Times, the director elaborated on his experience working with Mammootty, comparing it to his previous collaboration with Kamal Haasan. “There’s no comparison at all, and it’s definitely leagues above how I envisioned it to be working with Mammootty sir. It was compelling and intense, much like working with Kamal sir, but Mammootty brought a unique edge to every scene he performed.”

Gautham shared that Mammootty approached the role of Dominic with spontaneity and creativity, allowing the character to evolve on set. “When the writer asked him how he would portray Dominic, Mammootty said, ‘I have no idea; I’ll see what Gautam has set up for me and what inspires me.’ He just kept adding layers to the character, making the film much more than what I had imagined.”

‘Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse marks a new milestone for both Gautham and Mammootty, as it is the first team-up of both.

Meanwhile, Gautham Vasudev Menon will play a pivotal role in the upcoming action thriller film ‘Bazooka’ which is directed by Deeno Dennis.
