October 2 marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who is also known as the Father of the Nation. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in 1869, in Gujarat’s Porbandar and today marks the 151 birth anniversary of 'Bapu'. Several Mollywood celebrities took to social media to pay a tribute to the Father of the Nation.

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal asked his followers to take inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi. “Get Inspired by Mahatma. Gandhi Jayanti Wishes #FatherofNation #GandhiJayanti,” Mohanlal tweeted.


Megastar Mammootty also paid a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. “Remembering Mahatma Gandhi ji on his birth anniversary,” Mammootty shared in his social media post.

In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared Mahatma Gandhi's birthday (Gandhi Jayanti) as the International Day of Non-violence.

President Ram Nath Kovind paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on Gandhi Jayanti and also appealed that, “The 151st anniversary is a good occasion to think through our priorities in the light of Gandhiji’s life and thought, and prepare ourselves again to hear his voice in our hearts.”
