From Edavazhiyile Poocha Minda Poocha to Pavithram: Remembering Srividya on her birth anniversary with her best work

An actor par excellence, Srividya entered showbiz at a very young age. With a career spanning over 4 decades, she has acted in over 800 movies in different languages like Malayalam and Tamil films with few Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi ones too. Since a very young age, Srividya managed to impress the movie-goers with her unique style of acting. Her eyes were a reflection of her heart and her smile communicated words that one could never speak. The magnificent beauty who ruled hearts during her time continues to do so posthumously as well. From her selection of movies to her way of portraying them, Srividya has always stood out. Her life has inspired thousands and her untimely demise broke millions of hearts. As today marks the birth anniversary of the poignant talent, here’s taking a look at some of her Mollywood movies you must watch right away.

Edavazhiyile Poocha Minda Poocha

Srividya essayed Rohini, who is a well-educated woman and a professor, getting married to a progressive and respectful man Raja (Madhu). Rohini gets seduced by Bhagyanath (MG Soman), a friend of Raja, and how her relationship with her husband changes over the days. The 1979 movie was directed by Hariharan and scripted by the wordsmith MT Vasudevan Nair. Srividya playing Rohini is nothing less than a masterclass for acting students. Srividya also won the Kerala State award for the best actress in the movie.

Aadaminte Variyellu

Released in 1984, 'Aadaminte Variyellu' is one of the best movies made in Mollywood. Directed by K. G. George, the movie speaks about three women from different strata of the society which were played by Srividya, Suhasini and Soorya. Srividya essayed Alice, an upper-class woman married to a businessman Mamachan (Bharath Gopi). Their marriage is nothing but a mess because Mamachan used his own wife to get up the ladder and she has nothing but disgust for him. Alice seeks comfort in an extramarital affair with Jose (Mammootty), but even that doesn't mend the shattered soul in her.

Thinkalaazhcha Nalla Divasam

Written and directed by P Padmarajan, the 1985 release saw Srividya essaying Ambika who is the wife of Narayanankutty (Karamana Janardanan Nair). Both are central government employees working in Mumbai. The couple is trying hard to make ends meet and that's when Narayannkutty's brother Gopan (Mammootty) and his wife Bindu (Unnimary) talks about selling their ancestral property and shifting their mother Janakikutty (Kaviyoor Ponnamma) to an old age home. The movie has the best performance of Srividya.

Ente Sooryaputhrikku

Directed by Fazil, 'Ente Sooryaputhrikku' was released in 1991. Srividya essayed KS Vasundara Devi, a revered playback singer. She has a daughter Maya Vinodini (Amala), but cannot accept her as she was born out of wedlock. Maya is brought up by her foster parents, but later the teenager happens to find out the truth. Srividya played the singer and the mother very well.

Pavithram

Some might disagree, arguing that there are better movies than 'Pavithram' in Srividya's career, but we believe one needs some courage and talent to play the character Devakiyamma in 'Pavithram'. Devakiyamma and her husband Easwaran Pillai (Thilakan) live with their children joyfully in their house. They have children and grandchildren and are living happily. Devakiyamma gets pregnant at a very old age and everyone else, other than Unnikrishnan (Mohanlal) blames her. Srividya played the role with perfection and we believe you must not miss the movie.
