Former Kerala Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy passed away on Tuesday at the age of 79, after undergoing treatment for cancer. Celebrities including Suresh Gopi, Tovino Thomas, and Rachana Narayanankutty offered their condolences and praised him for his vision and humanitarian nature. Former Kerala Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy passed away on Tuesday. He was 79. The veteran politician breathed his last at Chinmaya Hospital in Bengaluru at 4.25 am. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer. Mollywood celebrities including Suresh Gopi, and Tovino Thomas, have taken to their respective social media handle to pay homage to the veteran leader.
Actor-politician Suresh Gopi took to his Twitter handle and said, “Tributes to former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy sir!”
Tovino Thomas was devastated by the news. In his six-decade-long political career, Oommen Chandy has represented the Puthupally constituency in Kottayam district for more than 50 years. He was the MLA from Puthupally.
Meanwhile, Oommen Chandy is survived by his wife Mariamma and children Maria Oommen, Chandy Oommen, and Achu Oommen.
