Exclusive! ‘Trance’ was just a mind-blowing experience: Aswathi Menon
“Breath in… Breath out! You can overcome this,” Viju Prasad trying to calm the lady nearby, while they get stuck in an elevator is undeniably one of the most hilarious and most pivotal moments in Anwar Rasheed’s directorial ‘
“I would love to refer to it as ‘mind-blowing’,” Aswathi Menon exclaimed, describing her experience working with the ‘dream team’ of ‘Trance’. The Mollywood movie starring Fahadh Faasil that released the previous month made headlines for its sensitive thread and spectacular visualization.
“I can’t find another word other than mind-blowing, to express the experience. Because being a part of such a great movie and playing Kavitha in it is huge for me. Working with technicians like Amal Neerad (cinematographer), Resul Pookutty (sound designer) and Anwar Rasheed itself is a dream come true for any artist,” Aswathi added.
When asked about what was her reaction when Anwar Rasheed approached her for the project, Aswathi said, “I didn’t think about anything else. The first thought that crossed my mind was ‘Oh God! It’s Anwar Rasheed!”
“It took me some time to believe it. Even if I had no dialogues in the movie I would have said ‘Yes’,” Aswathi added confessing that she is still incredulous that she did the movie! Aswathi Menon essayed Kavitha, the casting director who introduces Viju Prasad to Solomon Davis and Issac Thomas. Although she had less screen space in the movie, her character was hugely applauded, as she remains the catalyst in converting Viju Prasad’s life to new dimensions.
“So while the team called me for the movie and said that I have to do Kavitha, I didn’t think twice about it. All I had in my mind was that I am doing this. I didn’t even know what my part was. But it was later, when Vincent Vadakkan, the screenwriter narrated my part that I realized how important the character was.”
Aswathi Menon also had to go for a makeover for the movie. She had to chop off her long hair to fit into the character. “So while talking about my character they said that I might have to shorten the length of my hair for the character. All I said was ‘Ya, sure, not a problem’. I obviously had an attachment to my hair, but something within me made me say, ‘Yes’,” Aswathi said concluding that ‘Trance’ was an experience of a lifetime.
