Exclusive! 'Drishyam' star Roshan Basheer: I want to play versatile roles

Some characters stick to us no matter how many years go by. Varun Prabhakar is one such character from the movie ‘Drishyam’ and it was Roshan Basheer who played the part. It has been seven years since the release of the movie and the actor is still identified for playing the antagonist’s role. In an exclusive chat with ETimes, Roshan Basheer shares why he didn’t appear in Mollywood after the blockbuster and also his expectations from his career.
“After ‘Drishyam’ I know people have huge expectations from me.I got a few opportunities in Malayalam after that. But I decided to wait, because it won’t be fair if I make a random choice, I should make sure that I give a more appealing character for the audience. So I decided to take a break. But I was active in Tamil and Telugu movies. I’m waiting for the right character in Malayalam, which would match the expectations after being a part of such a huge blockbuster,” Roshan said, opening up about why he hasn’t signed any movie in Mollywood yet.
Speaking about his expectations, the young actor added, “As an actor, I want to play versatile roles. And I feel if we are willing to work hard and stay dedicated, we will get the desired output.”
Roshan Basheer, who is a post-graduate in Computer Science recently found interest in business and the actor has opened a cafe in Kochi. “And I am also into business. I have started a cafe in Kochi. I love to handle both acting and business hand in hand!” he added.
Roshan Basheer’s other interests include Cricket. He is a huge fan of the sport and has also met the captain of the Indian team Virat Kohli. Roshan clicked a picture with the cricketer and many of his fans found an uncanny resemblance between the two and we can’t dismiss it. So we enquired the actor if he would love to play the cricketer if a movie was made inspired by the cricketer, Roshan Basheer said, “I would love to! I will be jumping in joy. I am a huge fan of Virat Kohli.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Roshan Basheer will be next seen in the Telugu movie ‘5 W’s’, a crime thriller, in which he will be co-starring with ‘RX100’ actress Payal Rajput. The actor has also signed for a Telugu movie backed by MS Raju Productions, wherein he will be romancing Ruhani Sharma.
