Jayasurya has always been lauded by his directors for going the whole nine yards for his characters onscreen. But even he found it next to impossible when it came to dubbing for his role as a stutterer in Ranjith Sankar’s Su… Su… Sudhi Vathmeekam. “It’s the most challenging role I have ever done,” says Jayasurya, who plays the titular character spanning the ages from 20 to 40, with variations in stutter as he ages.
He says that acting for the role was no cakewalk but the difficulty compounded when he got inside the dubbing studio. “Usually I take only three days to dub for a film but it took me almost a week for this movie because I found it next to impossible to match the emotion, pace and rhythm of the stammer,” says Jayasurya.
He tells us that while he’d rather have done it in sync sound like his previous film
Lukka Chuppi, he had no qualms about doing everything possible to make it “an inspirational movie”. “I think we all know at least one person who stammers and for them even saying their name is no mean task. They would be low in confidence and self-esteem,” says the actor.
The movie has Jayasurya teaming up with director Ranjith Sankar for the second time after the superhit Punyalan Agarbatties, which motivated the former in more ways than one. “Even now a lot of people call and tell me that when they were down they watched Punyalan Agarbatties and it gave them the strength to pick themselves up again. I am hoping Sudhi would do the same,” explains the
Amar Akbar Anthony star.
