'Drishyam 3' digital rights row: Popular OTT platform issues notice; Says it alone can stream Mohanlal’s film

The upcoming Malayalam film 'Drishyam 3,' starring Mohanlal, is one of the most anticipated films among Indian audiences. The previous two parts of the franchise became massive hits and set new benchmarks for thriller storytelling. Because of this success, fans are eagerly waiting to see how the story of Georgekutty continues in the third instalment. Amid this growing excitement, streaming giant Amazon Prime Video has already secured the digital streaming rights for the film. The platform has now issued a public statement clarifying its ownership of the film’s digital rights and warning against any unauthorised deals related to its online distribution.In a statement shared on social media, Amazon Prime Video asserted that it is the sole holder of the digital rights for 'Drishyam 3.' The platform explained that these rights come from a valid agreement signed with the film’s production house, Aashirvad Cinemas. The company clearly stated:“Notice is hereby given that Amazon Seller Services Private Limited (Amazon), pursuant to the valid exercise of its rights under subsisting agreements between Aashirvad Cinemas and Amazon, is the sole and exclusive holder of all digital rights (including but not limited to SVOD, TVOD, AVOD, FVOD and EST) in the film Drishyam 3 (Malayalam) (The Film),” the statement read. The OTT platform also warned the public and industry stakeholders against entering into any agreements regarding the film’s digital rights without its approval. The statement further said: “The public is hereby cautioned that Amazon holds these rights to the exclusion of all others, and Aashirvad Cinemas (including its assignees, licensees and any other person purportedly authorized by Aashirvad Cinemas) has no authority to sell, license, or in any manner create any third-party interest, lien, or charge over the digital rights for the Film.”The company added that anyone who engages in such transactions would be doing so at their own risk and could face legal consequences.Directed by Jeethu Joseph, 'Drishyam 3,' continues the gripping story of Georgekutty, played by Mohanlal, which captivated audiences in the earlier films. The third instalment was initially scheduled to release on April 2, but has now been postponed. According to the latest update, the film will release worldwide on May 21, coinciding with Mohanlal’s birthday, making it a special occasion for fans eagerly waiting for the thriller’s next chapter.
