‘Drishyam 3’ actor Asha Sharath says reprising her role in remakes didn’t feel repetitive
With Mohanlal’s ‘Drishyam 3’ nearing release, all eyes are on what the third instalment from the beloved franchise has to offer. Originally made in Malayalam, ‘Drishyam’ has been remade in multiple languages. Interestingly, Asha Sharath happens to be the one acting in its original Malayalam and also two of its remakes.
Asha Sharath essays the role of IG Geetha Prabhakar, the mother of Varun, in ‘Drishyam’. She reprises the role in the Tamil and Kannada remakes of the film. Despite reprising the roles, Asha Sharath says she does not feel it monotonous. In an interview with Cue Studio, the actress reiterated that she never felt repetitive, and there is a reason to it. "Never felt that I was doing the same thing over and over again. All the actors opposite me were different, and these were in different languages,” she said.
Asha Sharath explained that each actor, be it Mohanlal or Kamal Haasan, they have different approach towards the characters they play. “Especially because how Mohanlal conceived the character was not how Kamal Haasan did, and Ravi Kumar also approached it differently. They did it like three different characters. So it does not feel like it is the same scene, same film,” she added.
She further explained how Kamal Haasan approached his character emotionally, while Mohanlal did it subtly. She cited the climax scene for comparison. In the original Malayalam film, Mohanlal’s Georgekutty keeps facts clean, without being dramatic, but on the other hand, Kamal Haasan’s Suyambulingam had a rather emotional approach. It was high on emotions that Asha Sharath feared that she would be moved by it during the scene.
Meanwhile, ‘Drishyam 3’ is set for release on April 2, 2026. ‘Drishyam 3’ would explore the next chapter in Georgekutty’s life. “The film focuses on what happens in Georgekutty’s life after four-and-a-half years. That is the crux of the story,” Jeethu Joseph said during the launch. “The phenomenal response to the first two parts convinced us that Georgekutty’s journey had more to tell. Only after detailed talks with Jeethu did we finalize this new version,” the makers said.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
