Drishyam 2: What can we expect from the Mohanlal starrer?

Mollywood’s ‘Complete Actor’ Mohanlal turned 60 on May 21, this year and on the pleasant occasion, filmmaker Jeethu Joseph announced his collaboration with the actor for the sequel of 2013 box office hit ‘Drishyam’. Titled ‘Drishyam 2’, the movie has finally gone on floors from today onwards.

The prequel ‘Drishyam’ created a new history in Malayalam cinema by becoming the first movie from the industry to gross Rs. 50 crores in box office collection. The huge success of the movie attracted the interest of producers from other languages and it was remade in four other Indian languages like Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Telugu. Apart from that the movie was also remade in two foreign languages, Chinese and Sinhalese!

‘Drishyam’ was a gripping tale about Georgekutty (Mohanlal) and his family. Some unfortunate incidents occur in the family leading to the murder of a young man and Georgekutty covers up the crime to save his family. The last scene of Georgekutty leaving the police station, with a sigh of relief is etched in the hearts of movie lovers.

As the 2013 release is getting a sequel lets to take a look at what to expect from ‘Drishyam 2’.

While announcing ‘Drishyam 2’ Mohanlal shared that the upcoming movie will be ‘interesting’. Mohanlal was clearly delighted to collaborate with Jeethu Joseph for the sequel of a box office hit! Also, Mohanlal has been sitting at home for the past six months, enjoying the serenity and free time, working out for ‘Drishyam 2’, and also went for an ayurvedic treatment. Although a ‘Complete Actor’ like Mohanlal hardly needs preparation, we can expect that the actor will give his best in the decade as he is starting afresh!

In an interview with Etimes, Jeethu Joseph shared that ‘Drishyam 2’ will be a captivating watch. Although the filmmaker had no plans for a sequel during the past years, he recently found an interesting aspect in it. Jeethu Joseph is all prepped with the screenplay and Mohanlal too found it gripping. So cinephiles could expect an engaging movie ahead.

It has been seven years since the release of ‘Drishyam’. And sources suggest that the upcoming movie will be set seven years after where the prequel’s story ended. The characters will have undergone physical changes. Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba, and Esther Anil will be reprising the roles and the story happens in the present day.

After watching ‘Drishyam’ most of the cinephiles were wondering about what happened later in the story. Most of them are anxious to know if Georgekutty and his family got caught or the Varun’s family seeks to avenge. ‘Drishyam 2’ is definitely a continuation of its sequel and Jeethu Joseph shared that the forthcoming movie will explore the changes that happened in both families. So, ‘Drishyam 2’ will be more of a family drama, and it doesn’t deal with crime. The movie will track the mental and societal pressures the families go through and how their life progresses.

The discussion regarding the reopening of theatres is still progressing. Jeethu Joseph’s directorial ‘Drishyam 2’ is expected to release in theatres once it reopens. The Mohanlal starrer will be a refreshing tale and it will also give an overwhelming experience to the audience who are revisiting the cinemas after half a year’s break! The movie is more likely to release in theatres and one could expect its release even before ‘Marakkar: Arabikkadalinte Simham’.
