'Drishyam 2' ending explained: How Mohanlal's Georgekutty escaped again and what to expect from 'Drishyam 3'
Spoiler Alert: This article contains plot details and spoilers for 'Drishyam 2'. If you haven't seen the film yet and wish to avoid spoilers please stop reading now.
'Drishyam 3' is the highly awaited Malayalam release of the year. The reunion of Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph has created a great hype among the audiences.
As the release date approaches, fans are revisiting the most important moments from the franchise. The ending of 'Drishyam 2' remains the most crucial turning point.
'Drishyam 2' begins exactly where the first film ended. Georgekutty secretly leaves the newly built police station after burying Varun’s body beneath it. A fugitive notices him, but is arrested before he can reveal what he saw.
Six years later, Georgekutty has become a successful businessman and aspiring producer. His family appears to have moved on but the trauma remains. Rani continues to struggle with fear and insomnia and their daughters are still emotionally affected.
When the fugitive returns and informs the police, officers dig beneath the station and recover skeletal remains. Georgekutty and his family are arrested once again.
The climax reveals that Georgekutty had already calculated this exact situation years in advance.
He obtained another skeleton with similar characteristics and arranged for it to replace Varun’s remains during forensic testing. Varun’s actual bones were destroyed with acid. Georgekutty preserved a few fragments and sent them anonymously to Varun’s parents so they could perform his final rites.
DNA analysis confirms that the recovered skeleton is not Varun’s. With no conclusive evidence the court releases Georgekutty. Once again, he defeats the system through meticulous planning and extraordinary foresight.
Speaking at the promotional event, Jeethu Joseph said, as quoted by Cinema Express, "The film concentrates more on Georgekutty's emotions, especially his fear. Why? Because, different from the first and the second films, this time around, Georgekutty is unaware of whether somebody is chasing him and if so, who it is. In the earlier two parts, he has a clear idea about who chases him: police and a different family."
The director explained that the third installment directly follows the ending of Drishyam 2. He said, "He is making that preparation, but even he is not sure whether the cops will come. He is groping in the dark here, and it is the most dangerous situation."
Jeethu Joseph also cautioned fans not to expect the usual pattern of dramatic twists. "But that is not what Drishyam 3 is all about," he said before adding, "Do not expect anything beyond that, or else, you will get disappointed."
The film also stars Meena, Esther Anil, Ansiba Hassan, Siddique and Asha Sharath in key roles.a Sharath in key roles.
