As the Dileep-starrer 'Bandra' is not performing well at the box office, the filmmakers have taken legal action against seven YouTubers, accusing them of orchestrating a review bombing campaign.
Allegations claim that these reviewers deliberately propagated false and negative reviews, misleading audiences and impacting the film's reception.
The film production company has approached the Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, seeking retribution against the YouTubers.
This legal move follows previous incidents in the industry, including the Kochi City Police registering a case of cinema review bombing based on a complaint filed by 'Rahel Makan Kora' director, Ubaini. There have been growing concerns about the deliberate attempts on social media to degrade films, prompting the Kerala High Court to address the issue.
In response to these actions, the Kerala High Court reportedly urged the State Police Chief to take decisive measures against vloggers who create calculated and motivated reviews, aiming to extort and blackmail filmmakers. The issue was highlighted during Justice Devan Ramachandran's hearing of a petition by 'Aromalinte Adyathe Pranayam' director Mubeen Rauf, who stressed the adverse impact of such "foul play" on the film industry and demanded appropriate action.
Meanwhile, despite the legal battle surrounding review bombing allegations, 'Bandra' faces criticism regarding its content.
According to the audience's reviews, Udaykrishna, the scriptwriter known for previous underwhelming films like 'Aaraattu', 'Monster', and 'Christopher', has crafted another lackluster script for 'Bandra'.
Directed by Arun Gopy, the film, featuring Dileep and Tamannaah Bhatia in lead roles, is labeled as an action drama, but early opinions suggest underwhelming expectations for the movie's storyline and execution.
