Dileep film triggers protest on KSRTC bus; ‘Ee Parakkum Thalika’ switched off after objection from women passengers
A KSRTC bus journey turned tense on Saturday, December 13, after passengers protested against the screening of a film starring actor Dileep. The incident happened on a bus travelling from Thiruvananthapuram towards the northern districts. A group of women passengers strongly objected to the film being played, saying it made them uncomfortable because of the actor’s link to the 2017 actress sexual assault case.
One of the passengers, Lekshmi R Shekhar, later spoke to ANI about what happened. She said the film 'Ee Parakkum Thalika' was played at a very loud volume during the journey. “Watching and listening to that film, in the present circumstances, and having to endure it for a 2.5-hour journey on a KSRTC bus was extremely uncomfortable for me,” she said.
The passenger said she raised the issue with the conductor and clearly asked for the movie to be switched off. “I also told him that otherwise I would get off at the next stop,” she said. She even decided to get down at Vattappara to show her protest.
She then asked the passengers if they wanted to watch the movie. “Except for two people, all the women clearly said they were not interested in watching it,” Lekshmi said. Many passengers supported her stand and told the conductor that they should not be forced to watch a film they were uncomfortable with.
“When we say we stand with the survivor, this is how we must act in practice,” she added. Respecting the opinion of the majority, the conductor switched off the TV.
After the film was stopped, a few male passengers allegedly created a scene, saying the case was already settled in court. Lekshmi responded strongly, saying, “Only a lower court has given a verdict. The case is still pending in higher courts. Until the survivor gets justice, every self-respecting woman must stand with her.”
Manju Warrier has also spoken out about the actress assault case verdict. She wrote on Instagram, “I have utmost respect for the Honorable Court. But in this case, justice for the survivor is still incomplete.” She added, “The mind that planned and enabled this heinous act, whoever that is, still walks free, and that is terrifying.”
Manju ended her message with a powerful line: “With her. Then, now, and always.”
