Dileep breaks silence after acquittal; says 'truth has won today'; celebrities react to the verdict
Actor Dileep has issued his first official response following his acquittal in the Kerala actress assault case which marks a defining moment after eight years of legal battle and public scrutiny.
As reported by 24 News, stepping outside the courtroom after the verdict, Dileep told reporters, “Truth has won today. I have been waiting for this moment for eight years. I withstood everything because I was innocent.” The actor also stated that he would speak in detail later and thanked those who stood by him throughout the trial.
Dileep noted that the past years took a heavy toll on both his personal life and career. “My family went through pain nobody should ever experience. I believed the truth would prevail, and today it has,” he added.
Supporters gathered outside the court welcomed the verdict with cheers, singing praises and distributing laddoos in the court premises.
Film director and long-time friend Nadhirshah was among the first to react. Sharing a picture of himself holding Dileep close, he wrote on Facebook, “Thank you God, Satyameva Jayate.”
However, the verdict has also reignited the opposite side of the conversation from those who have stood firmly with the survivor since 2017.
Hours before the verdict, WCC had shared the note that read, "This has not been an easy journey. The journey of being a victim to becoming a survivor.” 3215 days of waiting for justice. Her fight has unleashed many tumultuous journeys for women in cinema, the Malayalam film industry and the state of Kerala. The impact has rippled through our collective conscience and voices have risen for change. Much has to be said for the courage and resilience she has shown through it all, while upholding her faith in the system. Her fight is for every survivor. We stand by her, and every survivor who is watching, in solidarity. #Avalkoppam."
Actress Rima Kallingal responded by sharing the poster “Avalkoppam” (“With Her”) along with the message, “Always. Stronger than before.” Actress Remya Nambeesan also shared the same poster. Alongside Parvathy Thiruvothu and others, they played a pivotal role in the formation of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), advocating safety, accountability and dignity for women working in Malayalam cinema.
