Superstar Mammootty known for his illustrious career has made significant contributions to Indian cinema. The legendary actor has played versatile roles on screen, and has always said yes to challenges. However, not everyone is aware that he has turned down some major blockbuster films. Among the notable films, Mammootty chose not to be a part of are ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Iruvar’.

According to several reports, Mammootty was initially offered ‘Drishyam, directed by Jeethu Joseph, which became a massive hit and is widely regarded as one of the finest Malayalam films of the decade. Though the director had initially thought of casting Mammootty, that didn’t materialize. Mohanlal stepped into the shoes of Georgekutty, a common man entangled in a web of deceit. The film earned him widespread acclaim and a lasting place in the hearts of audiences.

Similarly, the critically acclaimed film ‘Iruvar’ directed by Mani Ratnam, too was supposed to feature Mammootty. If reports are to be believed, Prakash Raj wasn't the first choice for the role of Tamizhselvan in Iruvar. Though the film was offered to Mammootty, he couldn’t sign it for some unknown reason. The film, which delves into the lives of two political leaders in Tamil Nadu, played by Mohanlal and Prakash Raj won praise for both its moving storyline and solid performance.

On the other hand, Mammootty is celebrating his 73rd birthday today, September 7, and wishes are pouring in from all quarters.
