Dhyan Sreenivasan’s 37th birthday turns into heartbreak; Loses father Sreenivasan on same day
The day Dhyan Sreenivasan turned 37 became one of deep personal sorrow. On Saturday morning, he received the heartbreaking news that his father, veteran actor and writer Sreenivasan, had passed away. Instead of celebration, the day became one of mourning for the actor and his family.
Sreenivasan had been battling a long-term illness. He was undergoing treatment at his residence in Udayamperoor.
As reported by Mathrubhumi, Dhyan was not in the city when the tragedy occurred. He was in Kozhikode for a film shoot when he received the news.
Dhyan lives in Kochi with his wife and child, along with his father and other family members.
Dhyan has earlier spoken openly about his complicated relationship with Sreenivasan. While Sreenivasan shared a calm and disciplined bond with his elder son Vineeth, his relationship with Dhyan had its ups and downs.
During a 2024 media interaction at MBIFL session, Dhyan recalled a painful moment, “That day when I reached home, my father was drunk. He blamed me for all my failures and kept talking about how much money he had spent on raising me. He told me, ‘First return the money I spent on you, and only then speak.’”
In the same interaction, Dhyan spoke about arrogance among writers and included himself and his father in that thought. He said,“Yes, he does have it. My father has very little tolerance. Why can’t he just sit with me and talk things out calmly? My father, Sreenivasan, has turned into a typical Malayali dad.”
The funeral is scheduled for December 21, 2025, at 10 a.m. at his residence in Kandanad.
