Cicada was born from personal experience: Sreejith Edavana

Sreejith Edavana's directorial Cicada was born from personal experiences, according to the director. The film, which has Rajith Menon, Gayathry Mayoora and Jaise Jose in key roles, delves on human nature, revenge and retribution through a man who steps into an dangerous jungle, and hit screens in Kerala on August 9.

Speaking about the plot, the director, who is also a music director and has composed all the songs in the film, says, “I love travelling alone. When I went to Manali once, I decided to go visit a waterfall that is some distance away. It was a solo journey and I found the sound of the cicadas that accompanied me for some time irritating. Eventually, it stopped, but the silence that followed was disconcerting. Later, a dog joined me, walking with me and then leading me. I never saw the animal again during my stay there. These experiences formed the thread for Cicada.”

Sreejith states that he has experimented quite a bit with the narrative style within the limitations of the film's budget. “We are now planning to release the film in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada soon,” he adds.
Sreejith Edavana Vandana Menon This is producer Vandana Menon's first venture into film production and she says, “Though I am from a corporate background, art has always been close to my heart. I have been producing ads for some time now, so this has been a natural progression from there. It was when I was doing a music video that I got in touch with Sreejith as he is a music director. Audiences watch a film for its story and other elements that standout. That is what we focused on, too. It's a small, but honest movie.”
