Mollywood’s visionary director Amal Neerad’s psychological thriller ‘Bougainvillea’ has minted more than Rs 35 crores worldwide in 13 days.
According to the Sacnilk website, ‘Bougainvillea’ has managed to collect Rs 35.5 crores, and the India Net collections for the film stand at Rs 16.51 crores. The India Gross collections are Rs 19 crores and the Overseas collections stand at Rs 16.5 crores.
Coming to the Kerala box office collections, in 13 days, the movie minted Rs 16.51 crores from the state. On day 13, Amal Neerad’s directorial minted Rs 21 lakhs as per the early estimates.
Looking at the day-wise collections from day 9 to day 13, we can see a downfall, which seems to not recover on the weekend.
‘Bougainvillea’ was directed by Amal Neerad under the story penned by Lajo Jose. Starring Kunchacko Boban, Jyothirmayi, and Fahadh Faasil in the lead, ‘Bougainvillea’ received mostly mediocre reviews from the audiences.
Our review for the film hailed Jyothirmayi’s stunning performance in this thriller. ETimes review for ‘Bougainvillea’ reads, “Royce (Kunchacko Boban) and his wife Reethu (Jyothirmayi) get embroiled in a crime investigation when Reethu is spotted outside the hostel of a girl who went missing. Reethu has no memory of the incident, even though police suspect her to be the perpetrator, and later more similar missing cases come to light. How Reethu recalls the memories and who is the culprit forms the crux of the film. Malayalam has never had a shortage for female leads who can carry a film and draw people to theaters. Jyothirmayi was spectacular in the role of Reethu, a perfect example of under-utilised female talents in the industry. She was very convincing in how Reethu's mood changes day after day and how the conditions, retrograde amnesia and anterograde amnesia, were affecting her life.”
