Children have been a very important part of films. Whether it is a film that features children or the one that is based on them, either ways they have always struck a chord with the audience. There have been many films in our film industry that very aptly captured the concerns, emotions and innocence of the children. In this regard, let us look at some of the best movies so far.

Written and directed by Mohan Raghavan, ‘TD Dasan Std VI B’, tells the story of a boy who is waiting for his father. The movie follows the central character ‘TD Dasan’, a sixth standard student, played by Master Alexander, his loneliness and longing to meet his father who left Dasan and his mother when he was one-year-old. Dasan is seen sending letters to an address he thinks is his father’s, however, the letters are being delivered to a filmmaker named Nandakumar (Biju Menon), whose daughter replies to Dasan's letters disguising as his father. The emotional connection between Nandan's daughter and Dasan grows as they exchange letters and how Nandan gets involved in it, forms the crux of the movie.

One of the finest works by acclaimed filmmaker Anjaly Menon, ‘Manjadikkuru’, tells the story of a family reunion from the perspective of children. Narrated by Pritvhiraj, the movie shows a nostalgic homecoming of 1980's when a group of elderly siblings visit their ancestral home for a week-long funeral function. The movie then follows the children in the house, their friendship and their own parallel world amidst the differences and issues between their parents. The movie follows a touching narrative and realistic characters and situations. The film used some talented child artists to play important characters in the movie.

An intertwined story of a child's effort to frame 101 questions as an assignment and the struggles of his father is crafted well in Sidharh Siva's ‘101 Chodyangal’. Mukundan (Indrajith),a school teacher asks his student Anil (Minon) to frame 101 questions as an assignment which Anil gets obsessed with. Meanwhile, Anil's father is fired from his job from a factory and is struggling to meet ends for his family. The director intertwines the quest of a father and son brilliantly in a slow paced-yet-engaging narrative in ‘101 Chodyangal’. The questions framed by Anil are rooted from the struggled poverty-ridden life he is leading, which forms the soul of the movie. The movie won Siddharth the Best Debut Director and Minon, the Best Child Artist award at the 60th National Awards.

A movie noticed for attractive cinematography with a child in central character, ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’ is a feel good entertainer with a touch of fairytale. The movie tells the story of Ryan, played by Sanoop Santhosh, a school going lazy son of a Christian father and Muslim mother. Ryan accidentally finds an antique piece from his grandfather's collection named monkey Pen which transforms Ryan's behaviour. Monkey Pen does Ryan's mathematics homework and in return Ryan has to behave well in school and obey teachers. Slowly Ryan changes drastically and overcomes adversities like his best friend's death and failure in a competition. The movie was well received for its craft and cinematography. Jayasurya plays an important role, that of Ryan's father in the movie.

A comedy entertainer, ‘Annmariya Kalippilanu’, directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas, follows the innocent revenge by a school girl on her physical education instructor. Ann, played by Sara Arjun, is an aspiring athlete who is failed intentionally at the athletics meet by her cunning physical education instructor, David. A furious Sarah arranges a tricky auto rickshaw driver Poombata Girish to beat up David. Initially, Girish tries to cheat Ann by getting her an expensive phone as the payment to hit David, and gets beaten up by David in the end. A guilt-felt Girish then gets an aim in life and works hard to return Ann's expensive phone. The movie, narrated in a funny way, then shows Girish's compassion for Ann and how he becomes a good friend to this little girl.
