‘Bazooka’ box office collections day 2: Mammootty’s game thriller sees a dip, mints Rs 5.20 crores

Mammootty’s latest outing ‘Bazooka’, a high-concept game thriller, experienced a noticeable dip in box office collections on its second day. Despite the hype surrounding the film’s release, the initial momentum appears to have slowed, raising questions about its long-term theatrical prospects.

Day 1 Promise Fades on Day 2

The film opened with decent collections, raking in Rs 3.2 crore on its release day (Thursday). However, early estimates from the Sacnilk website suggest that the day two earnings slipped to Rs 2 crore, bringing the total to Rs 5.20 crore in India net collections. This early drop signals a challenge in sustaining audience interest, especially outside Kerala.

Occupancy Declines Despite Kochi Surge

On Friday, Bazooka recorded an overall Malayalam occupancy of 39.77%. While Kochi remained a stronghold with a high 67% occupancy—peaking at 87% during night shows—the same couldn’t be said for other regions. Trivandrum managed a modest 46.25%, while metros like Bengaluru (16%) and Chennai (20.25%) saw much lower footfalls.

Star Cast

Directed by debutant Deeno Dennis, Bazooka stars Mammootty in a gritty and cerebral role alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Shine Tom Chacko, and Divya Pillai.

First reviews

The first reviews for the Mammootty starrer were quite mixed. One Twitter user wrote, “A below-average outing from debutant Deeno Dennis. It felt like Mammootty was transported back to his 2015-era film choices. The bgm was irritating almost every second, and the overall technical aspects were severely lacking. Game animation was good!.” Another Twitter user wrote, “First half was decent with good flow. Interval block stood out, but slow-mo could’ve been less. Second half worked for me—twist was predictable, but the climax and music hit well. - One Time Watchable.”

On the other hand, Mammootty’s previous outing was ‘Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse’.
