‘Barroz’ box office collections day 8: Mohanlal’s fantasy film struggles, mints only Rs 9.8 crores

With a reported budget of over Rs 150 crores, Mohanlal’s directorial debut film ‘Barroz’ seems to be having a tough run at the box office as the movie has only managed to mint more than Rs 9 crores from India in 8 days.

According to the Sacnilk website, the Mohanlal starrer has collected Rs 9.8 crores from India in 8 days, and on the eighth day the fantasy flick has collected only Rs 42 lakhs as per the early estimates by the website.

If the speculations regarding the budget are true, then the Mohanlal starrer will turn out to be a major loss for the makers as the collections are not even close to the spending. Even though the movie was in 3D and was aimed at family and child audiences, ‘Barroz’ is not getting many likes from the targeted audiences and the fans as well.


Coming to the occupancy rates, ‘Barroz’ had an overall 11.98 percent Malayalam occupancy with morning shows at 4.19 percent, afternoon shows at 10.36 percent, evening shows at 15.12 percent, and night shows at 18.26 percent.


With mixed reviews and also tough competition from the Unni Mukundan starrer ‘Marco’ and the newly released Tovino Thomas starrer ‘Identity’, Mohanlal’s directorial debut will be finding it hard to hold much more days in theatres.


ETimes review of ‘Barroz’- From dialogues to dubbing choices—especially the Malayalam accent for some characters—would make one wonder about how informed these choices were. Half of the cast could have easily been chosen from the ample talent in Malayalam cinema, and a bit more effort could have been invested in casting the Europeans. When the African-origin occultist tries to be mysterious, it almost looks like a blooper that made it into the film. The hand movements, actions, etc., seemed so out of place and comical to an extent.
