married marine engineer Sanup, in Kannur.

The wedding, held at a renowned convention centre in the district, was attended only by close family members and friends. Recently, in conversation with a regional online portal, the actress revealed how she met her future husband.

Interestingly, the duo studied in the same college, but had not met while they were students. However, after the release of her first film, Sanup apparently messaged her a congratulatory text, revealing that he too was an alumni of the same institution where Athmiya studied. And that’s where their love story started, Athmiya says.

After a while, once her family settled in Thalipparambu in Kannur, the duo met. In the chat, Athmiya says that their desire was to get married at the renowned Guruvayoor Sri Krishna Temple. However, they couldn’t, due to Covid – 19 restrictions. Athmiya also mentioned that their plan was to get married in the year 2020, initially.

In the video of their wedding that had gone viral, her groom can be seen wearing a stylish kurtha and mundu with his long mane kept in place with a hairband, while Athmiya was decked up in a sari in white – wine red colour combination, paired with traditional jewellery, and white and red flowers on hair.

The actress said that Sanup’s family understands well about acting profession and that they are supportive of her career.
Athmiya is currently shooting for the movie ‘Avanovilona,’ which has Santhosh Keezhattur as the protagonist, playing the character of a transperson. She will also be seen in the Prithviraj starrer movie ‘Cold Case,’ which is an investigation thriller and also stars Aditi Balan in a major role. Athmiya also has another bilingual movie coming up.
