“It is disappointing, but this is my passion and I am keen to pursue acting,” says Athira, who has just finished her house surgency in dentistry. “My parents were adamant that I get a professional degree before I pursue my interest, which is what I am now set to do.”

Straight after house surgency, Athira joined Djibouti, directed by SJ Sinu. She played the friend of the lead, played by Shagun Jaswal. “My character had to return from

because of an unfortunate event and it is when Shagun’s character comes in search of me to Kerala that she meets the hero, played by Amit Chakalakkal. The film is about the relationship of this girl from Djibouti with a Malayali guy,” says the young actor.

Speaking about the shoot in Djibouti during the pandemic, she says, “At first, we were a bit nervous about the pandemic. But then, we started the shoot and got involved in it. We were based in a remote place called Tadjoura and it was actually quite safe there. The cases were low in Djibouti on the whole. I had gone there for four days of shoot and ended up staying for three months.”

She says she can’t wait to do the follow up test on November 12 and get back to work.
