Asif Ali has been roped in as the lead for debutant director Nishanth Sattu’s upcoming film. The makers announced the movie recently and are expected to unveil its title and motion poster on Thiruvonam Day through the actor’s social media page.

Nishanth had worked with directors Shafi, Amal Neerad, Santosh Sivan and Prajesh Sen. The makers are tight-lipped about the genre of the movie and Asif’s character in the film, but it’s safe to say it will be an entertainer.

Asif, meanwhile, completed 11 years in the industry – having made his debut with Shyamaprasad’s Rithu in August 2009. The actor, who has had a stellar couple of years, was filming for Rajeev Ravi’s Kuttavum Shikshayum in Rajasthan just before the lockdown was announced. The actor plays a cop in the film.

Earlier this year, when we had caught up with him to ask about his journey so far, the actor said, “In all the years I have worked, I have always placed complete faith in my directors. I depend on them for my performance. When I have a difference of opinion, I try to work with them and figure that out. Right now, I try to collaborate with people with whom I am comfortable sharing my opinions. This helps us work as a team and reach consensus on certain matters that expedite the shooting process. A lot of people asked me not to play the jilted lover Govind in Uyare, especially after Vijay Superum Pournamiyum. But I have always wished that I should never be stuck doing a particular kind of role. So, I didn’t have to think twice before picking it up.”
