Ashuthosh Rana, known for his roles in 90s films like Dushman, Sangarsh, and most recently, the Tamil film Vettai, will be acting in a Malayalam film next — St Peter’s Day by debutant Sajan K Mathew. The actor will be playing a don in the film, which has Asif Ali, Sunny Wayne and Aju Varghese in the lead roles. So how did the Bollywood actor land in a Malayalam movie? “We were on the lookout for someone to play this role of a gangster, but none in the Malayalam industry seemed apt.
That’s when we came across Ashuthosh, who seemed just right for the role. His character is called Sampath, and he is the gangster king of the underworld in Mangalore, who runs a kind of parallel government. He will be speaking Kannada and Hindi in the film,” says Sajan.
The film belongs to the caper movie genre, in the director’s words. “Here we would call it an action comedy. Arun Gopinath, who scripted God’s Own Country, is scripting the film.”
