Arthana turns bold in Samuthirakani’s next

has just finished filming her Tamil debut Thondan, which is directed by actor-filmmaker Samuthirakani.

The actress plays a bold character named Magy in the social action-drama, which also has Vikrant as part of the cast.
The film is inspired by a few true incidents, says Arthana, adding that her role in the movie is “the exact opposite of that in Mudhugauv”.
“I played an extremely naïve girl in my Malayalam film. So, I had been waiting for a role that will help me break the image and Thondan proved just right. The film explores the subject of women’s freedom and the many anti-social issues happening in our society now,” she says.

Interestingly, she says she took up the film without having a clue about the story. “It would be the first and last time in my career that I will dare to do such a film. I trusted Samuthirakani sir, who ensured that mine is a strong character and it will all be shot well,” says Arthana.
Incidentally, Samuthirakani hadn’t seen any of her works before casting her in the film either. “It’s on the day the shoot began that he saw me for the first time ever. I still don’t know how he had the confidence in me but never had the guts to ask the reasons,” says the actress.

It’s in Telugu that the actress made her acting debut, through the film Seethamma Andalu Ramayya Sitralu. While Arthana says she is happy that she could explore other film industries too, she is a tad concerned about often being wrongly credited as Arthana Vijayakumar.
“My official name is Arthana Binu and Binu is my mom, who is a single parent. I am not a star kid as many refer to me. I also don’t have any film industry connections as I was brought up by my mom, who wasn’t part of tinsel town,” says the actress.

Meanwhile, her other upcoming projects in Tamil are Semma with G V Prakash and Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu 2 with Vikrant again.
