Anumol is a hapless victim of 'Mysore Kalyanam' next
Anumol has always had penchant for picking up performance-oriented roles in her films. After 'Akam' and and 'Chayilyam', the curly-haired actress has taken up yet another bold role in the film Mysore 150 Kilometre, directed by debutant Thufayil.
'The film talks about the misery that voiceless Muslim women in Nilambur face when they are married off to men in Mysore and then abandoned by their partners. My character Thahira is one such victim and her struggles for survival form the crux of the film,' says Anumol.
The movie will start rolling from July 15 in Edakkara, which is 150 km from Mysore as reflected in the title. Thufayil says, 'The film explores the concept of 'Mysore Kalyanam' where young Malayali brides are married off to Muslim men from Mysore. Despite widespread protests, the evil is still prevalent in districts such as Malappuram and Wayanad. '
Thufayil and the crew members travelled across the colonies in Mysore where such families reside. 'We went around places like Shanthi Nagar in Mysore and saw the pathetic state they live in. Most of them engage in making candles and agarbattis during the day but at night they work as prostitutes, as the majority of the grooms are unemployed,' he says. 'Some are even criminals and drug addicts. They marry these girls just for financial benefits and divorce them later citing trivial issues like not fitting into the Mysore culture or not knowing Kannada. The hapless women are often left with three or four children to feed.'
The film is narrated through flashbacks of Thahira's journey from Nilambur to Mysore.
