AMMA in crisis: Shweta Menon calls for Baburaj’s resignation amid sexual allegations

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is facing a major crisis following a series of sexual allegations against its members after the unveiling of the Hema Commission report. The latest controversy centers around actor Baburaj, who is currently serving as the acting General Secretary. Renowned actress Shweta Menon has publicly called for Baburaj to step down from his position in light of the allegations.

According to On Manorama, Shweta emphasized that maintaining the organization’s integrity should be the priority and that anyone facing such serious accusations, regardless of their standing, should temporarily withdraw from their duties until the issue is resolved.

Shweta also rejected Baburaj’s claims that the allegations were part of a conspiracy to prevent him from becoming the General Secretary. She challenged Baburaj to disclose who he believes is behind this supposed plot.

In response, on the last day, Baburaj denied the accusations made by a junior artist, who alleged that he sexually abused her at his home in Aluva in 2019.

Baburaj suggested that the controversy is being orchestrated by certain individuals within the film industry who are seeking to discredit him. Baburaj also questioned the motives behind the accusations, suggesting that if the artist is confident in her claims, she should reveal her identity to the public.

Baburaj further alleged that the accusations were an attempt to block his succession to the General Secretary position, following the recent resignation of actor Siddique, who also faces sexual assault charges.
