Disputing claims about the movie's failure, Alphonse Puthren highlighted that 'Gold' had generated significant anticipation, as evidenced by accruing a remarkable Rs 40 crore even before its release. He said that 'It's the only Prithviraj film that has earned such a big amount before its release.
However, he alleged that the film's downfall stemmed from deliberate negative publicity and undisclosed revenue misrepresentations, leaving him disillusioned and unsupported.

Expressing dismay over the lack of assistance and honesty in the industry, Alphonse Puthren revealed his absence during the film's promotional phase due to health concerns, assuming that others would shoulder the responsibility.
